Thanks to the Se
ptember 2006 issue of Glamour magazine I stumbled upon when I was clearing
off a bookshelf (while NOT waiting to get in the mood for decluttering … just doing it, see #17 below), I spotted the article by Kimberly Bonnell and Pamela Satran “12 Things to Stop Waiting for in Life.” So, here are their 12 things that I agree with, plus 9 more of mine:
- His first move.
- The ginger martini and chocolate chip cookie diet- ain’t gonna happen.
- A decent raise. Earn it, ask for it, get it.
- That gorgeous gay guy to change his mind.
- A sign to tell you what to do next.
- A cellulite cure. Let’s worry about AIDS and cancer first.
- Your ex to say he’s really sorry. Don’t worry, karma will get him in the end.
- The bathroom to clean itself.
- Monogamy to be easy (same goes for flossing).
- New Year’s. Make the resolution today.
- Your mother’s approval. If you’re happy, she will be too (eventually).
- A man to change everything in your life. Change it yourself now – he’ll catch up with you later.
- Counting on winning the lottery, an inheritance, or other cash windfall to make your life better. Make it better yourself.
- The perfect everything. Generally, good enough is good enough.
- Being discovered. It takes effort to make yourself known.
- The right time to quit smoking … eating better … stop drinking … overcoming any addiction or unhealthy habit. The only time to stop is right now.
- External motivators to act on healthy or mundane but necessary duties. Motivation is an inside job.
- Markdowns, sales, and clearances. It’s OK to indulge every once in awhile.
- Telling the people you care about that you care.
- Saying you’re sorry when you know you made a mistake that was hurtful to someone.
- Love. It’s all around you, you just have to open your heart to it.
